URBAN DIGITZ ART IN PUBLIC PLACES
3 FACES in a Subway
This mural was created for a one-week installation for a Global and Local Conference. The installation took place inside a hallway created to mimmick a real NYC subway station. Complete with faux terminals, transit marquee and sound. The cold October air only enhanced the aesthetic. This mural was located in Ohio at Cornerstone Church Main Campus near Toledo, Ohio.

ACTIVISM, the mural
Post-Project Complete! Eighteen months built up to a release to begin beautifying these blank building walls. In a total of 24 hours spent, a sketch turned into a big reality. For the second time, local artist, Mercé Culp creates a large public work from a small idea on paper. Its a community mural that doubles as a post-trip project after a trip to Israel through Partnership2Gether, Western Galilee in 2013. Activism through Diversity is its theme painted on an 18'x25' space on a vacant building at 18th St. and Madison Ave. Toledo, OH. This is one big community hand-shake! A handshake that unites people groups, ideas, efforts and communities. Uptown has created a beautiful community park next to this building providing a safe place to gather for inner-city families and neighbors. These murals were painted by a total of approximately 12 local artists where each artists picks a desired panel space and  Here are pictures of the completed project on August 28, 2014. Special thanks go to the Arts Commission for this opportunity and to community mural organizer/advocate Rachel Richardson to carve out a meaningful creative path for local artists.

Lil' Red
Rydin'-N-ThaHood

Urban Fairytale Mini
(narrative)

In the 4th grade, freestyle rap sounded like fun and Mercé's most catchy rhyme involved a chorus of, "Lil' Red Rydin'-N-Tha Hood, in tha hood..." With a great memory this picturebook came to be. Here is the miniature picture book or narrative sequence "Lil' Red Rydin'-N-Tha Hood". The original 16" book started as a digital art undergraduate assignment of 3 images used to tell a story. When the story failed to be complete, 2 more images were added. For the sheer love of this story, on a dare, Mercé accepted the challenge to produce 50 images to tell the story. After traveling the United States in a mobile sketchbook library, today it sits in the 2013 permanent collection of sketchbooks inside the Brooklyn Art Library.
